Special Semiya Payasam/ Vermicelli kheer

An easy and delicious dessert made with vermicelli, milk and sugar which can be served either warm or cold. By adding an extra ingredient makes it taste extra delicious and taste entirely different to the traditional Kerala semiya payasam. It is an easy recipe and requires only few ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 60g or 2 handfuls of vermicelli
  • 25g unsalted or salted butter
  • 4 cups milk
  • 300 ml fresh cream
  • handful of raisins
  • handful of cashews
  • 6-8 tbsp sugar or as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp salt (skip this if using salted butter)

Method

1) Heat 25g butter in a pan. Add 2 handfuls of vermicelli and roast until it starts turning brown.

2) Add 4 cups of milk, 6-8 tbsp sugar and 1/4 tsp salt. In medium heat, bring it to boil.

3) Add raisins and cashews. In low heat cook for 10 minutes.

4) Add the fresh cream and simmer for 5 more minutes. Remove from heat.

5) You can serve this delicious semiya payasam either warm or cold.
